From monochromatic tailoring to the sultry return of lingerie-inspired looks, the fall 2023 trends are giving us so many ways to sprinkle a bit of magic into our seasonal wardrobes. And it’s not just the ready-to-wear that’s making our hearts skip a beat. This year will also mark the exciting return of the eye-candy power boot, which was made for walking and turning heads.
To help me sift through all of the fall 2023 trends, I called upon my fellow colleagues here at Vogue. Ahead, they’re sharing the seasonal moments they’re most excited to test drive. From modern-day classics to retro-inspired themes, this might be our best dressed fall yet. Elevated Basics
Never underestimate the power of basics! On Miu Miu’s FW23 runway, nothing caught my eye more than these quietly luxurious, super chic cardigans. Ankle-Skimming Maxi Skirts
Long, voluminous skirts have my full attention this year, and I don’t see that changing as the seasons change. You seriously can’t go wrong with a tailored, yet breezy silhouette. For fall, I’m eyeing pleated options in versatile colors, paired with crisp button-ups or a graphic tee and pullover, for a certain collegiate coolness. Fancy Flats
This is less a new trend I’m sporting but a shoe silhouette that I favor that is finally in fashion—hurrah! I’ve long sung the praises of a dressy, statement flat. Why do you need the extra altitude when you can pitter-patter around in a shoe that (to my eyes) offers all of the chic of a towering stiletto? Red Hot Knits
Every now and then I get really into a pop of color mixed in with the rest of my everyday wardrobe. I love the way bold reds were incorporated into looks on the runways at Loewe, The Row, and Prada. This fall, I’ll be adding the color via staple knitwear pieces.—Madeline Fass, senior market editor

Lace Frills
I’m excited to see a resurgence of romantic lingerie-inspired pieces—like the frilly lace spotted at Gucci and Khaite and the sultry corsets at Tory Burch. I plan on wearing the delicate pieces with tough leather and denim jackets to balance the alluring look.—Alexis Bennett, senior commerce writer

Super Sweaters
I become sweater-obsessed as September nears every year. For fall 2023, I’m lucky to have some new mega options to shop– from the Bottega Veneta chunky knits to stripes at Valentino to Prada forever crewnecks that I’ve loved since the fall shows last spring. It seems like people have been leaning into knee-high boots all summer, and I have a good feeling they’re not going away any time soon. ’90s Ease
There’s something about the fall that makes me feel so nostalgic for the ’90s. I’m into the Meg Ryan sweaters, their unkempt aesthetic, and the pared-back ease of it all. Kitten Heels
The fashion world is still raving about ballet flats, but this season, I’m excited to put my uncomfortable ballet flats away for good, finally. I just got these Aeyde Berlin kitten-heeled flats during my trip to Paris, and they are so much more comfortable than your usual flat-soled shoes. From summer to fall, denim-on-denim feels like the trend that keeps on giving. I plan to update the timeless trend this season by swapping out my light-wash, low-rise jeans for a darker-wash skirt set. I love this city-girl-meets-school-girl-inspired ensemble from celebrity stylist Molly Dickson’s collaboration with Madewell. Luxe Capes
Call me old school, but when the leaves start to swirl and the air takes on the crisp scent of autumn, there’s nothing better than the poetic union of sophistication and coziness found in a cape, so I was thrilled to see them make a comeback on the fall 2023 runways. From a Burberry exaggerated checked number (is it even fall if Burberry’s iconic checks aren’t involved?) to the vintage feel of a Stella McCartney chunky knit that could have been borrowed right out of my stylish grandmother’s closet in 1972, my wish list abounds and I’m counting the days until the temperatures drop.—Sasha Pinto, experiences manager
